In September 2023, an earthquake struck the Taroudant region, disrupting the lives of many families and weakening the local economy, particularly that sustained by women’s cooperatives. These cooperatives, essential players in rural development through the production of cosmetics and food products, saw their tools, their facilities, and sometimes their hope collapse within seconds.
But in this crisis, an opportunity emerged: to rebuild differently—with more solidarity, more vision, and more resilience.
The project is an initiative designed and led by the Association Jeunes d’Atlas, a grassroots organization that was on the front line of the emergency response, intervening in more than 200 affected villages. It was made possible thanks to the financial support of the Fondation de France, which believed in this vision of reconstruction rooted in sustainability and local empowerment.
CoopérAction Resilience is part of the continuation of this humanitarian mobilization. Its goal is to transform short-term aid into lasting solutions, by supporting affected families toward a stable, self-sufficient, and locally grounded income.
Above all, it is a human and solidarity-driven project, designed to bring new life and structure to women’s cooperatives.
Our ambition: to support the economic recovery of rural women by providing them with the means, skills, and tools they need to rebuild sustainably.
We began by listening. A field audit allowed us to understand the real needs, the daily challenges, but also the remarkable potential of these women and their initiatives. From there, we co-designed a program in several phases:
We firmly believe that successful reconstruction is not limited to restoring buildings, but also requires economic empowerment, social inclusion, and the recognition of local know-how.
CoopérAction Résilience is a collective project.
We believe in the power of collaboration between associations, institutions, experts, and communities.
The project is led by theAssociation Jeunes d’Atlas, with the support of several committed stakeholders:
Because resilience cannot be decreed—it must be built
It is the alliance of solidarity and innovation, to rebuild not only activities… but also futures. Women & cooperatives at the heart of change.
